In a spectacular display of cognitive decline, President Joe Biden did not address the horrible shooting at a Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee hours after it happened. Instead, he blabbed about ice cream and “good-looking” children.
The Fox News program “America Reports” aired Biden’s live blunders with the expectation that he will comment on the March 27 shooting. Audrey Hale, a female-to-male (FTM) transgender, killed six – three children and three adults. But program hosts John Roberts and Sandra Smith were surprised at what the president’s remarks were.
“My name is Joe Biden. I’m Dr. Jill Biden’s husband, and I eat Jeni’s Ice Cream, chocolate chip. I came down because I heard there was chocolate chip ice cream. By the way, I have a whole refrigerator full upstairs. You think I’m kidding? I’m not,” the president said.
Biden also mentioned Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD), which he described as “one of the best guys in Congress.” He was immediately distracted by four little children, asking: “Who are these good-looking kids back here?” Biden then proceeded to chat with Sara Blakely, the children’s mother.
Both Roberts and Smith cut the broadcast at that point. The two realized that Biden had no intention to address the tragedy in Nashville, deciding to end the coverage to avoid wasting viewers’ time.
“The school shooting that just happened left three children dead, three adults dead [and the shooter] dead. We were told he would be addressing this off the top,” Smith remarked.
Roberts answered: “It’s rather surprising. I thought that a somber President Biden would have come to the podium here and addressed the school shooting. He’s yucking it up with the crowd in the East Room.”
The deadly shooting that occurred in the morning of March 27 at Nashville’s The Covenant School lasted about 14 minutes before police officers shot and killed Hale. Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs and William Kinney – all nine years old – were the three young casualties. School head Katherine Koonce, substitute teacher Cynthia Peak and school custodian Mike Hill were the adult victims.
While the Associated Press (AP) noted that police have not confirmed any motive for the shooting, officials said Hale targeted the school itself instead of any particular individual. Meanwhile, USA Today reported that the active shooter, who attended The Covenant School, may have had some resentment toward the institution. Law enforcement refused to confirm this detail, however.
According to Metropolitan Nashville Police Department Chief John Drake, law enforcement recovered a 60-page notebook belonging to Hale. The shooter’s parents were also unaware that their child had obtained most of the guns, with them believing that Hale had only purchased one gun and had already sold it.
The March 27 shooting was the 19th such incident at a school in just the past three months that left at least one person wounded. It was also among 130 mass shootings this year in the U.S. with at least four wounded – excluding the shooter. Moreover, the Nashville shooting was the deadliest since the May 2022 shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, which left 21 dead.
